PAT Testing

PAT TESTING / PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTING

What is PAT Testing?
Portable Appliance Testing (also known as PAT Testing) is a process of checking electrical appliances for safety through a series of visual inspections and electronic tests. Here at J.D.Mounsey, we can offer this service for a wide variety of different business. So, if you are small holiday cottage or a large business with a lot of appliances, then we can help.

Why do I need to have my appliances tested?
The best way of ensuring that your appliances are safe is to have a PAT test carried out on them. It’s paramount that if you are a landlord, that you meet this legal requirement. This helps ensure that you maintain high standards of electrical safety in your rented property.

What does Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) involve?
A full PAT test should include both a visual inspection and a more in-depth check using specialist PAT testing equipment. This test includes earth continuity, lead polarity, and insulation resistance checks. Some appliances only need a reduced test, called a PAT insulation test.

Who should do the work?
Here at J.D Mounsey our qualified electrical team conduct PAT testing on a regular basis.
We have the necessary knowledge, skill and experience needed to avoid danger to our staff
and others.

What will I receive?
Upon completion of the portable appliance inspection and testing you should receive a report that details the following as a minimum:

  • An inventory containing each appliance type, name, location and description
  • A full set of test results for each appliance tested
  • A full list of any failed items with an explanation of their failure
  • A visible pass or fail label on each appliance detailing the inspection date, next test due and the inspector’s signature.

What if I have more questions?
If you are not technically aware, then our electrician at J.D Mounsey who carried out the
inspection and testing, will be happy to talk through your report and advise you of any
further action required.
